Batting Cage Nets

Batting cage nets are made of different materials and come in many varying dimensions. Most of them are made of nylon, polyester or other variations of the plastics. The dimensions vary from 14 feet in length to as much as 24 feet. The batting net is usually a square or hexagonal opening in shape. To improve vision of the players, most batting nets are colored black. Most of other colors interfere with the players vision hence are avoided.

Nets cannot be made of metal because of weight restrictions on the frames. Plastics are also a good material to stop the baseball as it absorbs a lot of kinetic energy. The strength of the net is determined by the net itself as well as how it was constructed. Nets that have been constructed using the intersection format where lines are crossed at right angles are usually more strong than one that has not.

Another factor that affects batting nets strength is UV treatment. Batting nets are made of plastic materials, mostly nylon, and such materials are seriously destabilized by ultra violet rays. UV treatment enables them withstand the UV rays without being much affected. With good construction and sufficient UV treatment a batting net can last for a long period of time.
